Traditional arts craftsmen will be eligible for a new government subsidy if they take on two or more apprentices, according to a new regulation assessing traditional artworks, collections and handicrafts.

The regulation protecting the disappearing traditional arts and crafts was released by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Industrial Development (BMBID) at a news conference on Wednesday.

Under the regulation, craftsmen can receive subsidies of 100, 300, 500 or 800 yuan per month depending on the number of apprentices they instruct.

Eligible arts and crafts include cloisonne enamel, lacquer carving, ivory carving, and other traditional techniques.
