Pakistan: Cotton Prices Decline Slightly

After some stability, cotton prices are sliding in Pakistan.

Today, cotton prices are Rs2425 per maund, sources of Karachi Cotton Association revealed.

In ready cotton, about 11800 cotton bales transacted. Lodhran/Jalal Pur station dominated cotton deals with 9000 bales between Rs2450 and Rs2460 per maund. RYK recorded sale of 2000 bales between Rs2465 and Rs2475, while at Upper Sindh, only 800 bales changed hands for Rs2450 per maund.

According to Cotlook Indices, A Index was 58.75 and B Index stood at 56.60.

Total cotton arrival on March 15, 2006 is 12,306,481, from which bales of Punjab cotton were 9,801,000 and Sindh cotton 2,541,819.

In terms of sales of the cotton bales, 14,850 bales of Punjab cotton and 58400 bales of Sindh cotton were purchased by exporters.

Mill owners purchased 8,632,001 bales of Punjab cotton and 2,185,096 of Sindh cotton.

Total unsold stocks as on March 15, 2006 were 1,452,472.
