China’s textile conditions showed some improvement during week ending January 28, which was illustrated in a .55 percent increase in the main textile index to 95.82. Gains were noted in 4 out of the past 5 subindexes. The raw material subcategory index gained 1.36 percent, reaching 94.34, while the accessories subindex rose 1.15 percent to 103.67. Minor gains were noted in the apparel fabric and home textile subindexes, with only the grey fabric index declining .12 percent.
For the month of January 2008, the textile business index increased 4.33 percent to 1,267.48. There was extreme volatility in the index, with the market subindex falling 7.29 percent to 748.35. This contrasts to a 10.11 percent gain in the production index, which reached 1,786.62. The export price rose 5.49 percent to 94.6 percent. In contrast, the export business index fell 6.55 percent to 1,303.43.
