China: Cotton supply under pressure in 2008

Latest statistics show that since the completion of this year's cotton harvesting, trade volume of new cotton has completed over 70%. Cotton price keeps rising at a slow but stable pace. National Development and Reform Commission pointed out that the decrease of cotton installs in textile companies due to cut in import will put more pressure on domestic supplying market. Currently the cotton price is relatively low in the international markets, so textile companies should take this opportunity to fill install gap for the next year when the price goes up and further uplifts the production cost.
