India: Associations Seek Power Tariff Cut for Textile Units

Federation of Tamil Nadu Yarn and Cloth Dyeing, Printing and Processing Associations appealed to the Government to grant power tariff concession to textile-related units as given to powerlooms to improve job prospects of people depending on textile business.

Setting up of common effluent treatment plants for Erode units and other areas, and linking them to the sea as it would be difficult for each unit to set up a reverse osmosis plant, was suggested by them.

A demand for hike in interest subsidy under Technology Upgradation Fund (TUF) scheme from 5 to 7 percent, and extension of TUF from March 2007 to 2010 was also raised.

It sought State Bank of India to withdraw counting charge of Rs 10 for counting Rs 10,000 and requested Government to give 5 percent interest for minimum balance of Rs 1,000 to 4,000 kept in banks by the people.

The Federation elected Erode MLA KS Thennarasu as President for third consecutive term. Other office-bearers included were Vice-Presidents Sugumar, CP Damodaran, Secretary KR Harikrishnadas, Joint Secretaries P Subramaniam, V Harappaleeswaran and Treasurer PNCG Loganathan.
