Write: Tiegan [2011-05-20]

Apparel exporters insisted that the government should establish a central waste plant so that they can fulfill compliance issues.

Exporters explained that the compliance was the key issue for apparel sector and as it was not possible to set up an advanced waste management plant in every factory, a central plant was practical.

Various businessmen presented this proposal at an Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) at a meeting, which was attended by almost 52 organizations and was presided over by Mir Shahabuddin Mohammad, EPB Vice-Chairman.

Besides this, Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) requested tax holiday for the garment industry and also withdrawal of all types of VAT (value added tax) applicable for the industry.
