LAHORE: The ministry of textile is prepared to launch garments workers?training programme within garment factories.

The ministry of textile has selected about 20 factories throughout the country where technical training institutes will be developed for training of female workers to meet the growing need of trained workers in the garment industry.

An amount of Rs 96 million has been approved for the scheme from the Export Development Fund and necessary infrastructure facilities have been managed by the private sector in their manufacturing units.

The private sector will bear the major share of training costs whereas the government will provide assistance in the shape of stipend to trainees and part of trainer's fee.

The existing technical training centres have so far remained unable to meet the requirements of the industry with regard to the number of trained workers and quality of the training given to them.

In view of this the government has decided to develop training facilities under direct supervision of the industry.

The arrangements for launching the training programme were discussed at a meeting held at the Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers Association. The meeting was chaired by Syed Masood Alam Rizvi, Secretary Ministry of Textile, and was attended by important industrialists from the knitwear sector.

As per the programme finalized, applications will soon be invited from intending trainees for a three-month intensive training, particularly to female worker, both for knitwear and woven garment factories. Educated young girls can adopt garment-making as their career by getting training under the programme during which they will be given a monthly stipend of Rs 2,500 in addition to free training and transport facilities.
