Trade traffic statistics compiled by the Statistics Department of Dubai Ports, showed that the textile market in the Middle East has continued its strong growth in 2005, with total trade through Dubai touching an astonishing $5.8 billion, an increase of 15 percent over the previous year, Khaleej Times reported.
Total imports increased from $3.3 billion in 2004 to $3.6 in 2005, whereas re-exports increased from $1.6 billion to $2 billion over the same period.
Total value of exports was pegged at $243.4 million, up from $169.9 million in 2004.
China ranked first on the list of top textile exporters to Dubai, with total exports of $1.3 billion. India was second with exports worth $300 million, followed by South Korea, Indonesia and Thailand at $272 million, $160.1 million and $125.5 million respectively.
