Taiwan Textile Federation will organize Taipei Innovative Textile Application Show (TITAS) in October. After more than one year of research, Tri Ocean textile Co Ltd successfully developed Polypropylene (PP) fiber and launched mass production in 2001. Jammy Huang, general manager, said that due to PP fiber's wide range of functions and high market potential, the fiber will become the star of the world textile industry in the next couple of years. Huang added that Tri Ocean Textile is now the only manufacturer of PP fiber in Southeast Asia.
The PP fiber is in production at the firm's Taiyuan factory, which is now able to produce 300 tons a month. In line with increasing demand, Huang predicted that Tri Ocean Textile would have to raise its production levels to meet the world market demands. He did not give a specific figure.
Currently, the firm produces PP yarns to supply its own factory, as well as domestic and overseas customers. After a long intermission, Tri Ocean has decided to take part in this year's Taipei Innovative Textile Application Show (TITAS), held by the Taiwan Textile Federation (TTF) from Oct. 15 to 17 at the Taipei World Trade Center, during which the PP fiber will be unveiled. Huang said the firm hopes to introduce this new fiber to buyers face to face and would like to have some feedback during the occasion. "We expect to enlarge our market through this show," said Huang.
The PP chip is now supplied by Formosa Plastic Corporation. This high-tech fiber, said Huang, is suitable for production by small- and medium-sized enterprises. Its economic production type is small volume and multiple items. Thus, for big enterprises, he said, it doesn't pay in terms of production cost.
So far, Tri Ocean Textile's PP fabrics are exported to European and American markets as well as local customers. Inquiries for PP fiber have increased recently. "We predict that this year, orders might increase by at least 30 percent over last year's amount," Huang said.
Tri Ocean's PP fiber is named "DreamFel", which is the registered trademark for the filament. Huang said DreamFel is the most adequate fiber for high performance compared to other synthetic and natural fibers.
DreamFel is now widely used for thermal wear, diving and surfing suits, skiwear, athletic attire, medical textiles, socks and sock liners, denim and twills, sliver knits, work wear, automotive textiles, luggage and interiors.
