Akesu (Xinjiang Province) is a very important cotton-growing region located in the northern region of the Tarim Pendi Desert and is also the main ELS production area in China; however, cotton growth has been delayed due to early-season cool temperatures and excessive winds. Currently, the average height of the cotton plant is 18.1 centimeters, which is 3.8 centimeters below the average height a year ago. The euphylla on the main stalk is averaging 5.6 pieces, which is .52 pieces below last year at this time. It remains to be seen if this year's crop can overcome these growth constraints.
