NEW YORK [13.07.09] The New York Fashion Institute of Technology is hosting a seminar to discuss the development and future of green textiles, including organic/eco-friendly fabrics, trim and domestic manufacturing resources.
Scheduled for the evening of August 5, 2009, the session, led by industry professionals Holly Henderson, Georgia Kalivas and Susan Power, will also address responsible manufacturing practices, social and corporate responsibility and fair trade issues. The Red, White, Blue and GREEN 09 event is open to designers, merchandisers, apparel & textile manufacturers, small to mid-size business owners, and anyone with an interest in sustainability and promoting American-made products.
There is no perfect or immediate solution to sustainability and to the current challenges facing the fashion and manufacturing industries, said organisers. But we can make a difference and take the necessary steps to create eco-friendly products, while also helping to revive the textile business in the USA and doing our part to rebuild the American economy.
Holly Henderson, president of Holly Henderson Consulting, LLC, is a fashion and textile industry veteran designer, entrepreneur and manufacturing and technology consultant who has helped many businesses become "greener" through innovations in design, product development and process improvement.
She will be joined at the seminar by Georgia Kalivas, the USA representative and a coordinator and organic inspector for the Institute for Marketecology, which is accredited to perform third-party inspections, evaluations and certifications for organizations wishing to be certified according to the Global Organic Textile Standard, the USDA s National Organic Program (NOP), and other organic standards, and Susan Power, principal and publisher with About Sources, which has been providing domestic sourcing information to the industry since 1988.
