China's industrial production remains robust. May output increased 16 percent from the previous year and followed 15.7 percent growth in April. This achievement was rather impressive given expectations and compared to India's industrial growth of only 7 percent in April. Energy production is one area in which China is experiencing rapid gains. The country has been expanding power plants, power grids, nuclear energy and coal production. In May, coal production soared 18.5 percent from a year ago, electricity output was up 11.8 percent and textile production grew 12.1 percents.
