No matter what World Series team you support, a clothing company has your colors.
Drawing a quote from the movie "A League of Their Own," a company has designed a line of shirts for Philadelphia Phillies and New York Yankees alike, reminding fans that "there's no crying in baseball."
Vintage Blue designs these shirts and other sports-themed clothing to make attire that has an athletic theme and an original feel.
In the past, the company has catered strictly to women, but it decided to add a new line inspired by the World Series, making shirts in color schemes associated with both the Phillies and the Yankees.
"We were starting to get e-mails from a lot of guys to see if they could buy our shirts," said Michelle D'Avella, a partner in the company.
Liza Goncalvez, the company's president, said she used to work on the BET show MAAD Sports until she realized her abilities were better suited in a different field.
"The outfits they used to give me, I would hate them," Goncalvez said of the sports clothes she could find to wear on the show. "There was a lack of cute sports fashions for women."
After noticing this, Goncalvez decided to take matters into her own hands, altering the clothing to give it a more complimentary fit.
The result, Goncalvez said, was a hit.
"When I would wear it, everybody would be like, 'Oh! Where did you get that?' " she said.
From there, she decided to launch Vintage Blue, a clothing company that aims to create clothing with a sports theme that has a more vintage feel.
Their signature designs are inspired by the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL), which ran from 1943 to 1954. The company has a license with the league.
One of their signature quotes, "There's no crying in baseball," comes from the movie "A League of Their Own," based on the AAGPBL.
"It's the most famous line in the movie," D'Avella said. "Right now, I think it's more relevant and makes sense for people."
All of their designs try for a different approach to women's sports clothing.
"We're kinda trying to do a different spin on it. It doesn't have to be pink," Goncalvez said. "I think everybody likes to see an alternative."
