Stahl’s collection of leather finishes to be shown on a brand-new stand, number W2/B08, at the All China Leather Exhibition in Shanghai, China (3 – 5 September) will take the form of over a hundred leathers made in the Shanghai and Singapore applications laboratories using wet end and finishing products developed to reflect the new surfaces for the Autumn and Winter 2009/2010 fashion season.
The collection will include a selection of leathers developed for furniture, garments, shoe and leathergoods in a variety of colours based on the six colour groups that provide the strong palette of colours forecast for this season and which are illustrated on the related poster. The dramatic and exciting range of colours should stimulate the imagination of the inventive designer in the use of leather material for this season.
The highlight of Stahl’s display will be the special feature are showing leather made from different raw materials and finished using the new “Beautymaker” system to demonstrate the benefit of using this unique finishing system to produce very natural and soft leather with optimal upgrading performance.
This will be accompanied by a range of oily/waxy surfaces, aptly named “Asian Cowboy”, which will be demonstrated on nubuck, and on corrected and full grain leathers. A sporty section will illustrate how to make white high performance leathers using all-water systems.
Bright colours will be the attraction on veggie leather using a variety of finishes from Florinetique to subtle pull-up effects and burnished and polished surfaces.
A series of Smooth Box Leathers will have a soft handle and extremely tight grain in metallic and Florentique effects, using a novel water-based top coat to give an impression that the surface of the leather has been polished to produce a natural shine.
The latest embossing plates from Italy will have been used to create a range of textured effects which reflect the graphical designs predicted by Stahl for the season.
Patent leather remains active and examples will be shown finished using both high performance solvent and water-based formulations and the use of subtle metallic effects.
A group of waterproof finished leathers will show the result of the great skill and discipline needed in the selection of the products to be used in the finishing system and the avoidance of the use of wetting agents. Stahl’s specially designed sealer coats ensure that the waterproof properties of the prepared leathers remain unaffected by the finishing process and that the adhesion properties remain assured.
There will be many hand-finished items where the use of tipping, washing the surface and antique applications will be shown to have created very individual and unique effects.
A final area of interest will be crunched leather, flocked surfaces and gravure printing used to upgrade leathers. In this area, the use of foils to highlight trendy effects which may be over sprayed to enhance the surface design will be shown.
Altogether this collection represents an extensive and exciting collection based on the latest technology and trend information collected from the global Stahl network.
