Leaders in Taiwan's textile, plastic and glass industries put together an innovative business union yesterday to promote innovation and development in the cutting-edge "textile glass" industry sector.
The union is part of project developed by Taiwan Textile Research Institute (TTRI), Taiwan Technical Textiles Associations (TTTA), and the Society of Reinforce Plastic of the Republic of China (Taiwan), aimed at boosting revenue in the textile industry to NT$180 billion by 2015, including NT$25 billion for yarns and fabrics made of glass fibers.
The production value in Taiwan textile industry will reach NT$90 billion this year, up from NT$60 billion in 2004, said Y. K. Wang, chairman of Taiwan Textile Research Institute.
Wang noted that the aforesaid union will help foster development in the local textile industry, will setting up international standards for licensing technologies in the high-tech textile sector.
Over the past 30 years, Taiwan has been a global leader in the "reinforce fiber" and the "electronic fiber" industries, pointed Lin P. S., chairman of the Society of Reinforce Plastic/ROC, who anticipated a surge in Taiwan's competiveness if both sectors could be further integrated.
"The new agreement will spur research in new applications for synthetic fibers," said J. C. Tsai, chairman of Taiwan Technical Textiles Associations.
