When Liang Zi established Tangy in 1994 she knew what she was capable of creating and wanted to show to the rest of the world not only her determination in creating fashion but also her capabilities in the area. Liangzi showed very clear signs of becoming a fashion designer from even before she entered college. Liangzi worked as an art personnel in the department of Zhejiang Silk Industrial Institute for over half a decade, where she gained immense clothes making experience. Soon Liangzi joined the Northwest Textile college to study an art course but often found herself teaching the class as a substitute teacher when her teacher fell sick. Such was the talent of this young lady that she went on to win the first position in the ‘gold Scissors’ for male clothing. This was not all she even won the third position in the National ‘gold scissors” and all this while she was still a student. A record which is yet to be broken.
But this gold mine of designs hid after her college days. She emerged a few years later with Shenzhen Liangzi Co ltd and Tangy. Over 180 stores owned by Liangzi are spread all over China. Her knowledge in garments is vast. Tangy was developed keeping in mind leisurely casual wear for the ladies between 25 to 45 years of age their prices rest somewhere between the higher end clothing and the cheaper brands. Tangy wear is not only known for it’s comfort but their clothing is sophisticated unlike other casual wear. Most casual garments seem dull and shabby but Tangy apparel is a perfect bled between sophisticated elegance with simple casualness. Comfort is their top priority yet they have not lost style and cuts in trying to achieve comfort.
Liangzi was also aware of the environment and the conservator in her manifests itself in her clothing material. Tangy is known for the use of environmentally friendly fabric. A lot of cottons, silks and hemp are used. But by far the most favored fabric for tangy wear is Liangchou. Also called "gambiered Guangdong silk" in English, it is known to be favored by Liangzi. This is a kind of Chinese Silk, which was born about five centuries ago. The fabric is handmade and so environmentally friendly. It is said to be as soft as baby skin. Liangchou never causes itchiness and allergies. The fabric has two shades to it. On one side it is black and on the other it seems like brown pottery. Needless to say that while using this kind of fabric Lianzi has created traditional Chinese designs. She has kept the high necks and the butterfly buttons but her cuts are western. So she introduces to the western world the famous Liangchou fabric and also lends a new lease of life it this dying art.
Liangzi had gone to Paris to do a three-month course from Paris’ Chamber Syndicate Fashion School, an added bonus on her resume. Tangy wear comprises of silk pants, blouses, skirts, cocktail dresses all bearing the traditional look of Chinese culture. The line has such comfortable yet stylish wear that most models wearing it would rather just keep them on.
