China Moves to Assure Fertilizer Supplies/Halt Price Increase

Write: Rankin [2011-05-20]

Last week, the Chinese government took action to secure domestic fertilizer supplies and limit further advances in price. Effective September 1, 2008, an additional 150 percent export duty was placed on exports of nitrogen fertilizers, with an extra 100-percent duty applied to phosphate and potassium fertilizers. In the fall of 2008, it is anticipated China will launch a major grain production initiative that is expected to increase domestic fertilizer demand.
