Over 350 delegates attended the recent two-day conference ‘Colour Technology for Best Practice and Sustainability in the Textile Supply Chain’ organised jointly by the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists (AATCC), the Society of Dyers and Colourists (SDC) and China Textile Information Centre (CTIC).
Endorsed and supported by the China National Textile and Apparel Council (CNTAC), the conference focused on building a harmonious and sustainable apparel supply chain with particular emphasis on colour and the use of colour technology. Executive sponsors included Clariant International and DyStar GmbH, and from China the Hualian Garment Component Enterprise Co Ltd and Wuxi Natural Textile Industrial Co Ltd.
The opening address was given by Mr Sun Ruizhe, CNTAC vice-president and session chairs included Dr Martin Bide (AATCC president), Ms Susan Williams (SDC president) and Mr Albert Fu (CTIC vice-president).
An impressive line-up of international speakers delivered a total of 14 papers. These included Dr Martin Jollenbeck, Clariant International (4E’s: Ecology, Economy, Environment, Efficiency); Mr Ulrich Hanxleden, DyStar GmbH (Technology in Cotton Dyeing – The Way Forward); Ms Esther Ng, Luen Thai Holdings Ltd (A Colour Story); Mr Keith Hoover, J C Penney Co. (Absolute Colour – Moving from Approval to Compliance); Mr John Chan, Polo Ralph Lauren (Fashion Garment Washing Trends and Challenges); Mr Sean Cady, Levi Strauss & Co. (Developing and Managing Chemical Restrictions), Dr Martin Bide, University of Rhode Island (Fibre Choice and Sustainability Issues) and Mr Howard Williams, Marks and Spencer plc (Plan A: One Year On).
Presentations were also given by China National Textile and Apparel Council, Hualian Garment Company Co. Ltd, Wuxi Natural Textile Industrial Co. Ltd, New Wide Group, The People’s Government of Humen Town, Beijing Aimer Lingerie Company Ltd and Gaiqi (China) KDG Company Ltd.
Comments Kenneth McGhee, chief executive of the SDC, ‘The general consensus amongst delegates was that this was the best international colour and textiles conference ever held in China.’
