Sweater manufacturing is an important sector in the textiles and apparel industry. After a well-received seminar on this subject held in early 2008, The Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel (HKRITA) organized another talk, Technology Seminar for Sweater Manufacturing, at the Royal Garden Hotel, Dalang, Dongguan. Academics and experienced practitioners were invited to give presentations to both the mainland and Hong Kong based manufacturers.
Dr. Wong Qing Miao of Institute of Textiles and Clothing (ITC), The Hong Kong Polytechnic (PolyU) introduced (on behalf of Prof. Hu Jinlian) shape memory theory, effects and its advantages for wool knitted fabrics. He also recounted the current issues of these products. Mr Linus Wu of Hong Kong Productivity Council detailed the new finishing system for wet processing of garments and accessories and its effect on washing and dyeing functions.
Dr Clement Lo, ITC of PolyU related the technology limitation of current knitwear production and how low temperature rapid evaporation tackling the issue. Mr Mak Song Liang, Manager of ASP Creation (Dongguan) Ltd encouraged the industry to leverage on information technology to enhance productivity in sweater production. The application of the technology also increases industry competitiveness by a shorter production time and cost control. To conclude the seminar, Dr. K C Ho of HKRITA gave an account of the latest developments in sweater manufacturing.
Held in line with the 7th China (Dalang) International Woolen Knitwear Fair, the seminar attracted over 130 audiences. There was a fruitful discussion between the speakers and the audience.
