Organized by Shanghai Municipal Government, 2009 Shanghai International Fashion Culture Festival will be held from March 10 to April 29. Focusing on the theme “Wonderful Life, Beautify Yourself, Welcome the World Expo, Promote Domestic Demands”, there are over 100 activities for 2009 Shanghai International Fashion Culture Festival. They will be divided into four sections and eight categories, including commercial marketing, anniversary celebrations, competition forum and fashion release. This festival is featured by wide coverage, repeatedly occurred bright spots, rich content and connection with business.
Coinciding with the economic winter of the financial tsunami, the Fashion Festival Organizing Committee, together with the center city, industry associations, brand enterprises and business groups, cooperatively planned these activities with excellent combination of commerce and trade. A great variety of activities will bring the atmosphere into high swing and make the festival busier with participants, thus ushering in the spring of the economy.
As the prelude of Fashion Festival, the 15th Shanghai International Clothing & Textile Expo, themed by the “Green Fashion”, will unveil in Shanghai New International Expo Centre from March 10 to 12. Under stagnant situation of some textile and garment enterprises, the organizer is committed to providing excellent services and business opportunities for exhibitors. There are three exhibition halls, with a total area of 40,000 m2. More than 700 enterprises and 100 brands from 9 countries and regions will participate in this exhibition, during which, 8 fashion shows and 7 public lectures will be held. In addition, the organizer will hold a seminar with the theme “Business Interaction Crates a Win-Win Future” and a variety of trade negotiations.
Adhering to the principle of “Leading Fashion and Advocating Consumption”, Huangpu District Government organized the “Five Hundred and Five Nice” Activity. They organize one hundred commercial enterprises, one hundred catering enterprises, one hundred tourist enterprises, one hundred cultural enterprises and one hundred brand enterprises to carry out “Five Nice” Festival (Nice apparels, nice decorations, nice look, nice food and nice articles). This activity is mainly held in Yuyuan Garden and Nanjing Road. Promotion of fashion products are held due to holiday reasons, such as the International Working Women's Day, the International Labor Day, the Children’s Day, as well as some Chinese traditional festivals, such as the Qingming Festival and the Dragon Boat Festival. Shopping malls affiliated to Bailian Group hold makeup festival, shoes shows, men and women products promotion and fashion cultural festival, forming another wave of consumption in the spring this year. “2009 Shanghai International Fashion Jewelry Festival” organized by Shanghai Gold Jewelry Association will hold Jewelry Brand Promotion Week, Thailand Delicate Products Show and gold jewelry exhibitions, etc., with a highlight of the theme of “Dazzling Jewelry Makes Your Life Better”. “Brand Fashions Special Offers” held by Shanghai Garment Group and “Shanghai High Quality Textile Products Come to the Community” organized by Shanghai Textile and Light Industry Association will substantially promote the domestic demands.
“Welcome the World Expo, the Wonderful World Expo” is another focus of 2009 Shanghai International Fashion Culture Festival. With the theme "City" and "Beauty", the 15th anniversary celebration of Shanghai International Fashion Culture Festival takes the achievements of 15 years’ development of Fashion Culture Festival as paramount. The charm of Shanghai costumes are displayed from multiple angles. The spiritual connotation of Shanghai culture "Made in China" leading China to the world is highlighted . This will be retained as classic events till the World Expo period.
The "Shanghai International Fashion Model Contest" is a brand that has developed over the past 15 years. There are eight competition sub-areas for this contest, covering 19 provinces and two municipalities, with more than 120,000 contestants (foreign models from more than 20 countries have ever participated in this contest), responding the themes of "Welcome the World Expo" and "Show Love" throughout the whole process. "China Cup International Fashion Design Competition", "Shanghai Cheongsams Design Competition", Donghua Science and Technology Park Cup "Patchwork Art Exhibition" are all carried out around the theme of World Expo "Better City, Better Life".
Xuhui, Huangpu, Luwan and Changning Districts will implement the combination of business, tourism and culture during the Fashion Festival to establish a typical model of Window Services and nurture featured service brands, laying a good foundation for the implementation of "Holidays Every Day, Golden Week Every Week" during the World Expo.
Brand releases, exhibitions and forums are always the strengths of Shanghai International Fashion Culture Festival. Shanghai Fashion Week autumn and winter collection release will be held at the Energy Saving and Environmental Protection Center of Garden Square for one week, bringing together works of renowned local and overseas designers with market potential, including Yang Guanhua, Zhou Xiangning, Jicheng, Li Hongyan, Simon Ma, Group of Jiang Cheng/Wang Yuan/ Wang Qi, and others from South America.
Shanghai International Apparel Forum "Fashion Culture and Urban Civilization" undertaken by Donghua University, "Development Direction and Risk Control of Apparel Industry under the Financial Crisis" and "2010 Spring and Summer Global Fashion Trend Analysis" provide a theoretical basis for the development of fashion industry in Shanghai . "Creative Kaleidoscope" Creative Bazaar Exhibition organized by Donghua University and "Fashion and Textile Products Exhibition" held in Shanghai Mart also enrich the Fashion Festival. Donghua University, Shanghai University of Engineering and Technology Institute of Clothing Technology, Bunka Fashion College Shanghai Institute of Clothing Technology, Donghua - Raffles College and Shanghai University Paris College also held graduation shows and forum on graduate employment.
Started in 1995, Shanghai International Fashion Culture Festival has been held for 15 years. The reform and opening up in the past three decades has provided unprecedented development opportunities for China's textile and garment industry. For Shanghai textile and garment industry, the period of recent 15 years has witnessed its transformation from an extensive to an intensive mode of production; from simple labor-intensive manufacturing industry to production-oriented service industry focusing on brand management. The Shanghai International Fashion Culture Festival is born and growing in this favorable environment.
