With China's textile export markets -- particularly those in the US -- being strongly affected by the adverse effects of the ongoing global financial crisis, diversifying export markets has become the motto of China's textile foreign trade policy, a safe way to provide fresh opportunities to Chinese exporters. In 2008, Chinese textile exported to 226 countries and regions, of which, 38 countries and regions achieved export value of over 1 billion USD.
China's yarn exports to Asia and Africa, especially to Bengal and Egypt, embarked an upward trend. Bengal doubled yarn imports from China in 2008. Its imports increased to $0.345 billion in the last year. Egypt was another yarn importer from China. Its imports increased to $0.128 billion (up 63.23%) in the last year.
Fabric export figures show that developing countries have become our main trade partners. China??s fabric export to Bengal rose evidently, scoring a 28.91% growth to 1.245 billion USD in 2008. Vietnam fabric imports from China in 2008 reached 1.245 billion USD, a y-on-y increase of 31.07 percent. Indonesia fabric imports from China in 2008 hit 0.758 billion USD, a y-on-y increase of 12.24 percent.
European, American and Japanese markets, China's biggest export markets, have formed certain dependency on Chinese apparel products, which could not be easily changed in a short time. On the other hand, apparel consumption in Russia, Kirghizia, and Kazakstan grew at an even faster rate in recent years. Russia apparel imports from China in 2008 reached 5.598 billion USD, a y-on-y decrease of 36.79 percent; Kirghizia apparel imports from China in 2008 reached 5.098 billion USD, a y-on-y increase of 234.94 percent; Kazakstan apparel imports from China in 2008 hit 3.022 billion USD, a y-on-y increase of 44.03 percent.
