Taiwan's textile manufacturers registered a decline in production value in the first quarter, said ITIS, the market research agency under the Ministry of Economic Affairs, yesterday.
According to ITIS data, in the first quarter, Taiwan's total textile production value stood at NT$76.57 billion, a 35 percent decline from the same period last year.
Manufacturers of synthetic fibers saw an even bigger decline of 52 percent year-over-year, ITIS said.
As for trade of textiles, in the first quarter exports reached US$1.982 billion, a 25 percent decline year-over-year, while imports were US$499 million, a decline of 27 percent. This translated into a surplus of US$1.483 billion, a 25 percent decline from US$2 billion in Q1 2008, ITIS said.
