According to shoemakers in Dongguan, in China’s Guangdong province, it will take time for the shoe sector to recover.
Vice director of Dongguan Leather & Footwear Association, Zhang Huarong said this is the lowest period the region’s shoemaking industry: "Starting from October, orders will pick up gradually ... But we'll need one to two years to return to 2007 levels."
Shoe exports and prices fell in August, with exports down year-on-year and month-on-month. Prices fell 3% compared with July prices. Around two-thirds of production was shipped to the US, while more than 10% was sent to Europe.
