China has been the number one target of anti-subsidy probes around the world for three consecutive years.
The country's commerce ministry says that from the beginning of 2008 until September of this year, a total of 20 anti-subsidy investigations have been launched against Chinese-made products. This has also made China the world's largest victim of trade protectionism.
The Ministry of Commerce noted the global financial crisis has led to increasing numbers of protectionist measures. Since the beginning of this year, 19 countries and regions have launched 120 trade remedy investigations against China, involving 11.7 billion US dollars. The increasing scrutiny mainly targets steel, and the textile and chemical industries.
The ministry calls on the government to actively participate in multi-lateral negotiations on trade remedy principles and increase industries' global competitiveness.
