WTO data reveals that, China has suffered the most number of countervailing investigations in 15 consecutive years. Figures for the previous year reveal that, China alone was involved in 35 percent of global anti-dumping cases and 71 percent of global countervailing cases.
Data from China's Ministry of Commerce also shows that as of November 3 this year, 19 countries or regions in total, launched 101 trade remedy investigations on China’s products, involving more than US $11.68 billion.
China is also the biggest target of trade protection measures of the United States this year. Data from the U.S International Trade Commission indicate that the United States implemented about 50 cases of various trade protectionist measures in the first 11 months of this year, among them, more than half directed at China.
According to statistics of China's Ministry of Commerce, so far this year trade remedy cases imposed on China by the United States amounted to US $5.84 billion, an increase of 639 percent year on year.
Vice-President of Shanghai Institute of International Studies Chen Dong Xiao said, "Sino-US bilateral trade volume has nearly quadrupled since 2003, but trade friction ratio of total trade volume is generally not more than 5 percent, the proportion of this year is only about 3 percent."
The Global Trade Warning Office under British Economic Policy Research Center issued a report on December 15, saying China has become the world's biggest victim of trade protectionism.
There is inevitably a direct ratio between the protectionist measures experienced by China and China’s export size. However, China accounts for 8 percent of global export, but encounters 35 percent of global anti-dumping cases and 71 percent of global countervailing measures, which clearly indicates an imbalance.
