Vietnam's textile and apparel exports have seen slight increase of 1% year-on-year in 2009 to US$9.1bn despite the global downturn.

If without the economic crisis which has significantly slowed orders from the US, EU and Japan, the growth would have been even higher, said the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association.

For 2009, the US remained the biggest export market for Vietnam-made textile and apparel products, accounting for 50% of total exports. However, shipments to the US were down 5% in value to around US$ 5bn, but were up 18% in volume against 2008.
