Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) unveiled its new “Out of Bangladesh” program, a guide to sourcing Wool mark-quality Merino wool garments knitted in Bangladesh from commercially available Merino wool yarns a few weeks ago. This is a big step forward for the Bangladeshi garment exporters who till now had proficiency in coarser counts of woolen yarn.
To unveil the reasons behind selecting Bangladesh for this project and also to know more about the project, Fibre2fashion spoke to Mr Kettlewell, Global Product Development Manager at AWI who said, “The reason for developing the program was to identify those knitters who are able to work with finer merino yarns in finer knitting gauges than previously seen out of Bangladesh”.
“Bangladesh is the new source of knitwear for retail brands around the world and retailers looking to source finer gauge merino wool knitwear from Bangladesh now know where to start looking and this project is all about making it easy for retail buyers to source merino wool knitwear for their shelves”, he concluded the exclusive interview by saying so.
