March 24-Minister Han Changfu met the visiting Global President and COO of John Deere, Sam Allen, to exchange opinions on enhancing cooperation in agro-machinery.
Minister Han pointed out that agro-mechanization was an important symbol of agricultural modernization. China s thirty years of reform and opening up had witnessed immense progress in agro-machinery. In 2009, the total power of China s agro-machinery amounted to 875 million kw, applied in 48.8% of plough, seeding and harvesting operations. With the accelerating industrialization and urbanization, China s rural labor structure had witnessed rapid adjustment, accompanied by an overhaul in the mode of agricultural production, resulting in higher demand for and increasing application of agro-machinery. For this reason, agro-mechanization is playing an ever more important role as the pillar in modern agriculture, which provides a huge opportunity for John Deere to expand its business in China.
The Minister said that foreign companies like John Deere were welcome to carry out business in China. He hoped that John Deere could develop tailored and popular products for the Chinese market, enhance training on machinery operators, improve post-selling service, control cost, and supply products that are affordable, useful and efficient.
The meeting was attended by leading officials from departments of international cooperation and agricultural mechanization administration, and the Bureau of State Farming.
