Local media reports in India have revealed that the Indian governemtn has initiated discussions with their counterparts in EU to ensure that non-trade barriers are not created by private organization in exports of Indian agriculture items to the
European markets.
Earlier Basmati rice exporters from India had run into trouble after importers in the EU have requested them to recall the consignments of basmati rice, based on test reports from some private laboratories declaring presence of pesticide residues in excess of the EU maximum residues levels. All-Indian Basmati Rice Exporter Association had issued legal notices to the concerned laboratories asking them to confirm that test methods followed by them were in conformity with the EU's guidelines.
