First snow greets Chengdu

The season's first snowfall, brought by a strong cold front that caused a drastic temperature drop in recent days, fell in Chengdu on Wednesday and was embraced by local residents with delight.

Snowfall was reported in most areas of Chengdu the same day and its arrival in the city downtown was first seen in the afternoon, when many people on the street took photos of the rare sight for the city with their cellphones and cameras.

The snowfall was followed by freezing temperatures, and local meteorological departments reported a temperature below the freezing point on Thursday night, the lowest in the month.

The temperature is expected to climb gradually with the withdrawal of cold weather on Thursday, according to meteorological departments.
