World Expo highlights Sichuan history and cultures

The World Expo in Shanghai on Tuesday started Sichuan Pavilion week to showcase the province's rich history, charming scenery and diverse cultures.

The design of the Sichuan pavilion features landscapes of the province, the giant pandas and the Sunbird, a relic unearthed in Jinsha ruins in western Chengdu in 2001. Parades, tea rituals and art performances with distinctive local characteristics will be staged during the period.

Craftsmen from Sichuan will display their skills on various intangible cultural heritage items, such as silk and brocade weaving, traditional painting, lacquer wares, wood and bamboo carving, and sugar painting.
