Chengdu-Lanzhou railway under construction

The construction of Chengdu-Lanzhou railway, a newly-designed route to link Chengdu and Lanzhou, started last week when an inauguration ceremony was held in Songpan County in northwestern Sichuan.

The railway with a total length of 463 kilometers and an estimated investment of RMB 62 billion will be the fi rst rail line to run across the northwestern regions in Sichuan province. Upon completion, it is believed, the traveling hours from Chengdu to Lanzhou will be shortened to four hours while it will only take two hours from Chengdu to Jiuzhaigou, a famous travel destination noted for its natural beauty.
