New PayPal Program Rewards Top Customers
PayPal launched a program for its top customer this month. "The purpose of PayPal Top Customer program is to thank and recognize our very best customers with special benefits, such as early access to deals, product launches and enhancements; special events; special offers for members and more," according to PayPal spokesperson Sara Gorman.
The program officially launched in April. Ms. Gorman said PayPal does not disclose how many members the program has, but said it was "a small percentage of our active customer base."
An AuctionBytes reader recently received a letter about the program, which stated, "You automatically become a Top Customer with more than $5,000 worth of PayPal payments in a rolling 12 month period. When you buy with PayPal, every dollar counts towards your goal." Members of the program who make $5,000 worth of PayPal payments within the next 12 months will be renewed automatically.
The letter detailed some of the "special treatment and extra perks" of the plan.
- Premium Customer Support ("Whatever your concern, your calls will always move to the front of the line to be answered by our very best customer service specialists."
- Faster Dispute Resolution ("All of our Top Customers receive special help with their dispute resolution. If an item you purchase from a merchant off eBay isn't received, you'll get the benefit of the doubt and a temporary credit while our customer support specialists help you through our resolution process.")
- Special Monthly Offer ("We'll team up with a different merchant every month to offer you an exclusive Top Customer deal that's not available to anyone else.")
- Community Category Discounts ("How you save is up to you. The Top Customer community votes to select a category for special savings. Then, PayPal negotiates a great deal for you from an online store specific to that category.")
- Exclusive Events ("We have all sorts of helpful workshops and fun mixers in the works. Be sure to take advantage of these opportunities to get to know your fellow Top Customers as well as key members of the PayPal team.")
- Offer Previews, Special Rewards and a Member Newsletter.
The program appears to be by invitation only.
