The World Association of Newspapers and Journalists Association recently issued the list of the 2010 Top 100 world daily newspapers by circulation in Paris. China had 26 newspapers on the list, including 25 from Chinese mainland and one from Taiwan region, which is the same as the previous year.
China had the highest number of newspapers on the list and also topped the list in terms of total daily newspaper circulation. Apart from Reference News and People s Daily, the rest of the Chinese newspapers on the list are all local and provincial newspapers.
Asia had the largest number of newspapers on the list with a total of 79, of which China had the largest share, demonstrating its dominant status in the Asian newspaper industry and in the world newspaper market.
The Yomiuri Shimbun from Japan topped the list with a daily circulation of more than 10 million, and it was the only newspaper with a daily circulation exceeding 10 million in the world. There are also 14 European newspapers, four U.S. newspapers and three African newspapers on the list.
Of the Chinese newspapers on the list, Reference News ranked sixth place, People s Daily ranked 10th, Guangzhou Daily ranked 20th and the Yangtze Evening Post ranked 22nd.
