Starbucks biggest store in Chinese mainland is opened on Jan. 5th in Xiamen. The location is set in a traditional building that is sparkled with Chinese cultural features. As for the controversy triggered by the Starbucks store in the Imperial Palace in Beijing, Wang Jinlong, President of Starbucks for Greater China Region, told reporters that his company placed high importance to blending its coffee stores with local traditional cultures, to respecting traditional values and to presenting Chinese culture to the world.
Wang added that Starbucks saw China as the most important overseas market, where it had opened many stores in places that were historical and culture heritages. The coffee chain stresses its mixing with local cultures and China should also hug other cultural elements with its accommodating attitudes and great confidence and should try to integrate into the world.
Wang said that the company will have 1,500 coffee shops in China by 2015. Apart from coastal cities, it will also march into inland cities. In Fujian Province where it has already opened its first store in Fuzhou and Xiamen, Starbucks will open another three stores around Chinese Spring Festival in Xiamen.
