Gansu speeds capacity pruning

The Gansu Province will iron out 3.14 million tons of outdated capacity in the power, steel and ferroalloy sectors this year and keep a firm grip on curbing excess growth in these heavily energy consuming sectors. This year the province must reduce its energy consumption per unit of GDP by 3.5 percent, a real challenge to the local authorities given their poor performance in the first half when growth rate in the local energy-intensive industry reached 18.24 percent.
