Three iron ore deposits each with a detected reserve of over 100 million tons have been discovered in the 6,000-square kilometer Awulale ore-forming belt of Western Tianshan Mountain, one of three iron-forming belts in Xinjiang, according to a four-year prospecting survey conducted by the Xinjiang Geology Bureau.
Major steelmakers such as Baosteel and Shougang have already set their feet in the ore-rich belt that reportedly boasts more than 20 percent of the 9.09 billion tons of iron ore reserves buried in Xinjiang.
