Steel Industry Forced to Cut Output

To fulfill their energy conservation and emission reduction goals, many steelmakers in Shanxi have vowed to lengthen the period of their production halts in the latter half of this year. According to a mandatory order, energy consumption per unit GDP in 2010 should go down by 5.2 percent from the previous year. But far from getting anywhere close to this target, the energy figure in the first half was even up by 0.09 percent year-on-year. This means governments of various regions must take extremely radical measures to promote their energy conservation programs.
