Voices for Restructuring Elevated

The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) stressed the importance of structural adjustments and the transformation of the development mode in the steel sector at a meeting with participants including CISA and major steelmakers. The NDRC regarded restructuring, output limits, obsolete elimination, innovation, energy conservation and emissions reduction, reorganization and industrial optimization as principal vehicles for the industry to realize the transformation of its growth method and pursue a scientific, methodical and sustained development trend.

At the meeting, the NDRC urged the Shandong Province to observe the following principles in the preparations of its restructuring pilot program.

- Avoid further expansion of steel capacity;

- Be committed to a low carbon development mode;

- Institutional innovation, and

- Stick to the opening up policy.
