In a move to make the country's steel industry more centralized and powerful, the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has asked local authorities in charge of the steel sector to present their merger and acquisition programs by the end of this year. Their plans should contain information such as profile of each steelmaker in question (its capacity, output, revenues and profits), detailed merger plan, the number of equivalent old capacity to be eliminated, and working schedules for their mergers and relevant measures.
