WSA Appoints Zhang as Vice Chairman

Write: Robertson [2011-05-20]

Zhang Xiaogang, general manager of China's Anshan Iron and Steel Corporation, was elected as a vice chairman of the World Steel Association at a meeting in Tokyo, which, according to WSA practice, means he will assume the WSA chairmanship from October 2011, the first time for a Chinese executive. The election of Zhang is a reflection of China's surge in the steel marketplace worldwide. Last year, China's crude steel output reached 567.8 million tons, representing nearly half of the world's total production.
