Tangshan Steel is exploring ways to build itself as one of the world's cleanest steelmakers. The company has demolished three 400-cubic-meter blast furnaces, three wire rod mills and old electric furnaces, all ahead of schedule, and removed ill-designed buildings and structures that block traffic. Instead, a greenbelt of 360,000 square meters will be created, doubling the company's green coverage rate to 42 percent.
Since 2008, Tangshan Steel has allocated 2.68 billion yuan to complete 26 energy conservation and emissions reduction programs that have helped to achieve its ultimate goal of zero waste water discharge. Secondary energy utilization rate also reached first-class levels.
