The much-advertised Zhanjiang Steel Complex, a 10 million t/y steel project initiated by Baosteel, has been officially included into the draft plan of the Chinese Steel Development Program under the Twelfth Five-Year Plan period (2011-15), which is expected to be finalized soon. The plan also involves other renowned steel projects in Fangchenggang and Caofeidian as well as those along the coastal areas of Shandong, Fujian and Jiangsu provinces. Production capacity of steelmakers along the coastline, or beside the river, would account for more than 40 percent of the country's total steel output by 2015. Baosteel has succeeded in trial commissioning a pellet plant known as China's largest production line of such a material in Zhanjiang in the run up to the final approval of this steel project.
