China's Steel Exports Soar in 2010

China exported 42.56 million tons of steel products last year, an increase of 73 percent from 2009; while importing 16.43 million tons of steel products, down 6.8 percent. China's iron ore imports totaled 618.63 million tons, down 1.4 percent year-on-year. China exported 140,000 tons of billet, up 229.1 percent and imported 640,000 tons of billet, down 86.1 percent.

In December, China exported 2.85 million tons of steel, down 60,000 tons from November and 14.67 percent from a year earlier while importing 1.41 million tons of steel products, up 30,000 tons from November and down 4.73 percent from a year earlier. China imported 70,000 tons of billet and 58.08 million tons of iron ore in December. The imports of iron ore were 700,000 tons more than those of November but 6.56 percent less than a year earlier.
