Over the past five years the Gansu authorities have eliminated a total of 12.96 million tons of outmoded capacity in various local industries. Among others, they shut down 424,000 tons of iron and steel, 70,000 tons of electrolytic aluminum and 940,000 tons of ferroalloy capacity.
