Sanming Steel in Fujian permanently shut down its 40-odd-year-old workshop that contains three 30 t converters, two small blast furnaces and a small three-strand continuous casting machine on May 24. Instead, it was launching a 120 t modern converter that can help ramp up output while reducing its energy consumption.
