Mexico issued a new proposal (PROY NOM 252 SSA1 2008) for toy import recently. It revised many items on hazardous chemicals and set rules on toy sampling and test methods.
The new proposal directs at the chemicals in children toys and pre-school stationeries absorbable, bitable and subjected-to-swallow while playing. Permit arsenic content is reduced from 100 mg to 25 mg; cadmium content reduced from 100 mg to 75 mg; chromium content reduced from 250 mg to 60 mg; lead content reduced from 600 mg to 90 mg.
