Facing to the "very difficult task"--- drought relief at present as the lack of rainfalls continues, the Yellow River Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarter (YRFDH) implements joint monitoring and adjusting of water flows along the river to help fight drought.
YRFDH issued red alert on February 6 in response to the worst drought hitting northern China in half a century, especially the provinces in the Yellow River Basin, and dispatched 1.39 billion m3 water from Xiaolangdi Reservior to more than 6.17 million mu droughty croplands in Shandong and Henan Provinces from January 6.
To ensure the water supply during the key period of drought relief, on February 8 , YRFDH increased the discharge sluiced from Wanjiazhai Reservior to 450 m3/s , and the discharge sluiced from Xiaolangdi Reservior to 900 m3/s ( more than 3 times compared with the normal mean in the corresponding period).Meanwhile, Donging Lake Reservoir of lower Yellow River opened its gatesto supply water to the stem stream in support of drought relief in Shandong Province.
