In an interview with the British TV station, Sky Sports, Mourinho discussed several topics, among them the length of his stay at the club.
The early months of his time at Real Madrid have been marked by a conflict with the club's General Director, Jorge Valdano and although Mourinho appears to have won that battle, he is unwilling to commit himself to seeing out the full four years of the contract he signed last summer.
"I don't know," he replied when asked. "I love Chelsea, I was in London and I was the happiest man there until someone arrived at the club who should never have arrived. I thought I would be there all of my life and a few months later I was out of the club. So you never know."
"Then in Inter Milan I found an incredible group of people and a magnificent club president, but after two years and with another two years left on my contract, I felt the need for change and to look for something new, so you never know what is going to happen," said Mourinho, who did none the less have words to calm the worries of any Madrid fans.
"When I sign a contract, I do so with the intention of seeing it out and of being happy in that period of time. So if everything continues in the way it has been going, I will continue," confirmed the Real Madrid coach.
Mourinho's side trails FC Barcelona by five points in the race for La Liga and will meet the Catalan side in the final of Spain's Copa del Rey in April. His side appears to have recovered from the 5-0 humiliation they suffered against Barcelona in the Camp Nou earlier this season.
"We have to follow our own route and look for our own stability, that is why I say that if we finish second this season and that is like the end of the world and we decide to change everything, that would mean starting from scratch again," said Mourinho.
"If we have continuity then we are going the right way. I think that is the normal thing to do with young players, who have to improve," he added.
However, Mourinho ended on a positive note. "I am not saying that we are going to win nothing. Why can't we win the Cup and the Champions League? We have the chance of winning the treble, or winning nothing," he concluded.
