Steve Jobs, who has been on medical leave since Jan. 17, resigned Wednesday from his role as the head of Apple, pushing the company's shares down 5.39 percent. Former chief operating officer (COO) Tim Cook has been named as the company's new CEO. Apple announced that Jobs will become chairman of the board, effective immediately.
I believe Apple's brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role, said Jobs in his resignation letter.
